Workshop For DTOs In MDAs

In continuing efforts to ensure efficient and effective service delivery in the Federal Civil Service, the Office of Head of Service of the Federation, in collaboration with Partnership to Engage, Learn and Reform (PERL) under the Department for International Development (DFID), organized  a one day capacity building workshop for Departmental Training Officers (DTOs) on the application of training tools/kits.

Declaring the workshop open on Monday, December 11, 2017 in Abuja, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita said that the workshop is to acquaint the DTOs with adequate knowledge for the application of the tools/kits in the conduct of In-house Induction Programmes at the MDAs.

“Over the years, as Government revenue dwindled, the Service was unable to fund the conduct of its service-wide induction programmes for new entrants. The resultant effect is manifesting in inefficiency, low productivity and insensitivity to the needs of the public. This workshop will enable us fill the gap in the conduct of service-wide induction programmes,” she said.

The tools/kits developed by the OHSCF in partnership with PERL-DFID, she noted, will expose younger officers to the rudiments, ethics, processes and procedures of the service.  She said this is aimed at providing employees in the Federal Civil Service with requisite competences to perform their jobs efficiently and effectively.

Speaking further on efforts to reposition the service, She said that PERL-DFID is assisting the Office of the Civil Service of the Federation in simplifying the tool for finalizing the new Performance Management System; and also undertaking institutional assessment exercise of  MDAs and Federal Training Centres .

She therefore urged the DTOs, who are also members of the Project Management Team (PMTs) to drive the Federal Civil Service Strategy Implementation Plan (FCSSIP),  to show commitment and dedication, which is germane to the achievement of Efficient, Productive, Incorruptible and Citizen-Centred Civil Service.
