FG Inaugurates 8-Man Committee On Commercial Orientation

The Federal Government has inaugurated an eight man technical committee on enterprise culture and commercial orientation in the Federal Civil Service.

Inaugurating the committee in her office in Abuja recently, the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mrs. Winifred Oyo-Ita said that the civil service under her watch is committed to enhancing revenue generation and wealth creation for the betterment of the Nigeria’s economy.

She explained that since she took over the leadership of the Federal Civil Service few months ago,

we are looking at improving our service delivery by re-engineering the civil servant to adopt the EPIC culture, to be Efficient, Productive, Incorruptible, and Citizen –Centred (EPIC).

1The Head of Service reiterated that it is a change that must be carried out in line with the agenda of this present administration that has strong anti-corruption stand.

Mrs. Oyo-Ita further said that it was high time the civil service changes from a cost centre to a revenue generating organ where the potentials of all revenue outfits in the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) of the Federal Government are fully utilized.2

She listed the terms of reference of the committee to include, propose measures for establishing enterprise culture and commercial orientation in the Federal Civil Service; develop operational guidelines for improved revenue generating capacity of MDAs; examine the need for commercial unit, Division or Department as one of the Common Services in MDAs and recommend modalities for the establishment. Others include design a functional organizational structure incorporating commercial units, division and or departments in MDAs; develop schedule of duties for different manning levels to assume commercial activities in the proposed commercial unit, division or department and to determine the type of skills and capacity building in enterprise culture, commercial orientation for commercial officers in particular and other Civil Servants in general.

Responding, the chairman of the committee, Hajiya Nuratu Batagarawa, Permanent Secretary, Service Policy and Strategy Office, in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, assured that the committee will do everything humanly possible to ensure that it completes its assignment within the stipulated time frame of three weeks.

Other members of the committee include the Director (CSTD), in the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Director (ICT), OHCSF, Director (PMS), OHCSF, SA Technical – HOS, TA-PS (CSO), OHCSF, Mrs. Soyinka –Onijala, Ministry of Trade and Investment and Mr. Ajayi Olajide, (OHCSF) who serves as member and secretary of the committee.
